...that my dear friend Angelina Kitaj sent me an invite for the Berlin show. This is a  recreation of 1920s Berlin, losing yourself in the past .  Today she will be playing Josephine Baker  and all you art loer, drama, historian, and all basically wanting to have fun :-) come see this show.

A small history of Josephine Baker
Josephine Baker – Fabulous Jazz Singer, Dancer, Actress (1906 -1975)
A Dancer, Jazz singer, Actress and a Comedian - All in one, Josephine Baker was the first black female entertainer to break through racial prejudice in Europe and the United States. Her acts were both outrageously funny and quite sexy.

Josephine Baker was born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1906 and she began her stage career touring with the Jones Family Band and the Dixie Steppers in 1919, performing in skits. She worked as a dresser for the Dixie Steppers learning the dance routines, so when they needed an extra dancer she got her chance. Her added comical touches made her a box-office draw. She found stage success at The Plantation Club in New York City, but when she traveled to Paris for "La Revue Negre" they went crazy for her – she took Europe by storm. Famous for barely-there dresses and no-holds-barred dance routines, her exotic beauty, magical stage presence and energetic performances charmed the audiences. From her early years as a Paris celebrity, to her participation in the French resistance she helped define the Jazz Age in Paris . Her stage success during the 1920s brought money which she spent on clothes, jewelry and pets. At one time she enjoyed owning a leopard, a chimpanzee, a pig, a snake, a goat, a parrot, parakeets, fish, three cats and seven dogs.

By 1927 Josephine was one of the most photographed women in the world, along with personalities like Gloria Swanson and Mary Pickford. Her earnings set her above any other entertainer in Europe at the time. She was the star in two early movies, Zou-Zou and Princess Tam-Tam, she created and danced her very famous banana dance to make radical artistic statements, to critique what was seen as a stultifying white puritan ethic.

We are very happy to perform, the first time in sl, the fabulous, glamorous Josephine Baker with her songs from 1927 -1934 .
